The Family Man

I watched this Christmas Movie again yesterday evening. This movie is truly “It’s A Wonderful Life” for the modern individual. The Family Man is about Jack Campbell (played by Nicholas Cage), a typical overachiever that has “arrived” in modern day (year 2000) Wall Street finance and enjoys his wealth. For all practical purposes, Jack is a good man although very self-absorbed. By an odd occurance, Jack is given the opportunity to see what his life would have been like if he had followed his college sweetheart back in 1987.

Of course The Family Man sounds like a very familiar theme for a Christmas Movie. However there is one twist that is new to this film. Jack is not a tarnished individual in the sort of Ebenezer Scrooge way. He does not scoff at poor people, his work ethic is his own and is no burden to those around him. Jack is just disconnected with his heart.
This movie is all about reconnecting.
